Preventative
Maintenance
|
Preventive maintenance is a necessary expense to
keep your vehicle in good running condition.
Following the scheduled maintenance
recommendations in your owner's manual, checking
fluid levels regularly and changing the fluids
and filters periodically can minimize the risks
of breakdowns and prolong the life of the
engine, transmission, cooling system and brakes.
So if you are driving a "maintenance challenged"
vehicle, you need to pay closer attention to
your fluids and filters. |
State Inspection
|
 |
Pennsylvania requires vehicle safety inspections
to ensure that vehicles are maintained for safe
operation. Safety Inspections can prevent
vehicle failure on the highways and crashes that
may result in injuries or death. The
emissions inspection program was developed by
the Departments of Transportation and
Environmental Protection with input from the
public and the various representatives of the
auto industry.
Tailored to meet Pennsylvania's specific air
quality improvement needs, the program focuses
on motorist convenience and choice. |

Air Conditioning Repair
|
Air conditioning repairs involve locating and
stopping leaks; it can be tricky to find a
small, slow leak in a hard-to-reach area, so it
can sometimes require several attempts to fix
the system. Most auto air conditioners have five
major components--the refrigerant, which carries
the heat; the compressor which draws in
refrigerant, compresses it and moves it along;
the condense, which expels heat; the expansion
valve, a nozzle that regulates the refrigerant
flow; and the drier/evaporator, used to cool the
car by blowing the hot interior air across the
refrigerant coils. |
Brake Repair
|
 |
The
modern automotive brake system has been refined
for over 100 years and has become extremely
dependable, complicated and efficient. The
typical brake system consists of disk brakes in
front and either disk or drum brakes in the rear
connected by a system of tubes and hoses that
link the brake at each wheel to the master
cylinder. Other systems that are connected with
the brake system include the parking brakes,
power brake booster and the anti-lock system.
Today's brake systems are so complicated that
repairing the brake system is best left to the
experts. |

Front End Alignment
|
 |
Having a regular front end alignment check is a
good practice economy wise as well as a safety
issue. If your tracking is out to any degree
tire wear will increase and you will be
replacing those tires much sooner than you
should be. Also of course, wear will be
increased on associated mechanicals. And
replacement in this area will cost you far more
than the price of a tracking adjustment. Having
a front end alignment check is a simple process
and can be carried out very quickly. Most checks
these days are carried out using laser devices.
A light emitting device is fixed to the rear
wheel and a receiver is placed on the front
wheel. The receiver is graduated to show where
the light hits and the person doing the checking
can then see if the tracking is out. |

Tune Up & Better Fuel
Mileage
|
All
modern cars and light trucks are equipped
electronic ignition (no points) and at least one
on-board computer that automatically adjusts
items like the ignition timing, fuel mixture and
idle speed. In fact, on modern
computer-controlled cars, it's impossible to
adjust these yourself. An automotive tune-up is
an orderly process of inspection, diagnosis,
testing, and adjustment that is periodically
necessary to maintain peak engine performance or
restore the engine to original operating
efficiency. |
